- If the door hangs crooked or a cable is loose, skip this and stay clear. Call us instead.
- Check the two small sensors by the floor. On most openers a steady light means they can see each other. Move anything in the beam and wipe the lenses.
- Nudge a crooked sensor straight until the light stops blinking, then try the door again.
- Still open, or it closes then acts up again? Call. Do not leave the garage standing open overnight.
If the door closes properly several times after that, the sensors were very likely the whole problem, and we would rather tell you that than charge you to come and do it. If it closes once and then acts up again, something else is going on and it is worth a look.
When it is not the sensors
- The travel limits are off. The opener thinks the floor is somewhere it is not, so it stops short or reverses.
- A cable slipped or snapped. The door goes down crooked, or one side hangs lower. Stop using it.
- The track is bent. The door binds at the same spot every time.
- The bottom seal or the floor. The door hits something before it seats and reverses on itself.
If the door is stuck open, say that when you call. A garage standing open is a different problem than a squeak, and we would rather hear it up front.
The price comes first.
You have probably heard the stories. Somebody advertises a $39 spring, shows up, and an hour later the bill is nine hundred dollars. That is not how this works here.
We look at the door, we tell you what is wrong, and you get the price before any repair starts. If the price does not work for you, we pack up and leave.
And if we find something after the work starts that changes the job or the price, we stop, show you what changed, and get your okay before we do anything more.

Questions people actually ask
The door closes if I hold the wall button down. Is that safe?
On many older openers, holding the button overrides the safety sensors so you can close up in a situation like this. Some newer units do not allow it at all. It also means the safety reversal is not doing its job, so do not use it as a routine, and keep kids and pets well clear of the door until it is repaired.
It closes then pops right back up. Why?
Common causes are a blocked or misaligned sensor, a travel limit set wrong, or something the door is hitting on the way down. We check all three.
Can this wait until the weekend?
The repair usually can. The garage standing open is the part that should not. Tell us when you call and we will be straight with you about when we can get there, and how to secure it in the meantime.
